Our Heritage Division was appointed by Standage to deliver essential masonry repairs and restorations for the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Cemetery Refurbishment scheme at Charlton Cemetery alongside four other cemeteries – Eltham Cemetery, Greenwich Cemetery, Plumstead Cemetery, and Woolwich Cemetery.
Our scope at Charlton Cemetery involved façade cleaning, extensive replacement of Kentish Ragstone walling, extensive replacement of Bath stone dressings, and removing all cement pointing and subsequently repointing all stonework in lime mortar.
We also undertook the careful and methodical dismantle of the spire to preserve each stone’s integrity, followed by the reinstatement of a combination of salvaged stone and new stone where an individual stone was found to be defective and beyond repair.
